Lake Placid Results-February 23rd

Local, SWSA jumpers Chris (J3) and Caleb (J4) did a nice job at the Olympic hills in Lake Placid, NY.  Both got extra practice with Coach Larry and found inspiration with the big towers looming in the background of the 20k jump.

Big Weekend for Nordic Kids, JUMPFEST TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

Results (and photos) to come for:

Saturday 1/26, 20k jumping SWSA event...10 local jumpers in action, J6-J2

Sunday 1/27, 18k and 30k jumping and nordic combined AOC event...1 Team SWSA member made the trip

Stay Tuned for the Jumpfest Schedule, February 8-10.

For the Nordic Kids, the highlights usually include:

Saturday morning jumping on the 20k and 30k (time TBD, usually 9am)
Joining the BIG crowd Saturday afternoon to watch the incredible action on the 70k
Saturday evening awards dinner (5:30ish) at the Lakeville Firehouse...SO MUCH FUN!
Saturday night Snow Ball and Eastern Ski Jumping Fundraising Auction (bring your checkbook parents)

How Far is...? You will be amazed!

Ski jumpers are amazing!  Evel Knievel has nothing on them for thrill nor distance!

5 meters (the distance the youngest jumpers go) is 16.5 feet=the distance from the foul line to the basket in basketball.

10 meters (the distance a strong, young jumper goes off of the 20k at SWSA) is 33 feet=FIRST DOWN!

15 meters (the distance experienced, young jumpers go) is 50 feet=longer than a coach bus

and so on...

65 meters (about the farthest jumpers go off the 70k at Satre Hill-SWSA) is 213 feet=MUCH further than Mr. Knievel's best motorcycle jump ever (130 feet, estimated by this blogger).

These athletes are strong and skilled!

Local Jumpers in Action

Saturday January 21, 2013-Lebanon Outing Club, NH

Caleb and Charlie travelled north to New Hampshire on a beautiful January weekend to test their skills against the LOC and AOC jumpers.  Team SWSA did quite well in event on the 25 meter jump.  This was the first competition of the winter and Charlie's first day with new, sweet gear!  Caleb finished first in the J4 division with 84 total points and a long jump of 14.5 meters.  Charlie finished fourth in the J2 division with 85.5 total points and a long jump of 18 meters.

Both boys and a crew of others (Chris and Orrin) spent Sunday with Coach Mark tuning up for upcoming events.  Progress and fun all around!

You can find Team SWSA Saturday the 26th at 1pm at Satre Hill in the first home competition.  On Sunday the Team heads to Andover, NH for jumps on the k18 and k30 in the morning.  There is a nordic combined competition in the afternoon (first lung buster of the young 2013 campaign).

The Alpine Jumpers will show their stuff all weekend at the hill...great people and great fun.

Jumpfest, here we come!!!
